AN72333: Determination of Adsorbable Organic Halogen in Wastewater using a Combustion Ion Chromatography System

Instrument Type: IC

This application note demonstrates that AOX can be precisely and accurately determined in wastewater using combustion ion chromatography. Analysis was automated using the Mitsubishi AQF–2100H system in combination with the Dionex Integrion HPIC system with a Dionex IonPac AS18-4μm column.

AU204: Determination of Inorganic Cations and Ammonium in Environmental Waters Using a Compact Ion Chromatography System

Instrument Type: IC

This Application Update revises AN141 using the compact, integrated Dionex Integrion HPIC system with a Dionex IonPac CS16-4μm cation-exchange column. Inorganic cations and ammonium in environmental waters are determined using a 4 μm particle 4 mm i.d. cation-exchange column to shorten analysis time.

Quantitative and Semi-Quantitative Determination of PPCPs and Their By-Products in Wastewater by Orbitrap MS

Instrument Type: LCMS

Pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs) and endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) detected in surface and drinking waters, as well as in treated wastewater. They are an issue of increasing international attention due to potential environmental impacts. We developed an analytical method capable of determining PPCPs and their by-products in wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) samples. This workflow was applied in a survey of 35 permeate samples obtained from a pilot anaerobic membrane bioreactor (AnMBR).

Analysis of Perfluoroalkyl Acids in Wastewater, Sludge, and Liver Extracts Using High-Resolution, Accurate Mass LC-MS

Instrument Type: LCMS

Perfluoroalkyl acids (PFAAs) are global pollutants and have been shown to bioaccumulate in the food chain. PFAAs have been detected in livers of fish, birds, and marine mammals from Greenland and the Faroe Islands.1 Biomagnification of perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS), the predominant fluorochemical detected, was observed along the marine food chain (Figure 1). We demonstrate the performance of the Exactive highresolution, accurate mass benchtop liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) system in the analysis of ten selected perfluoroalkyl acids.

Determination of Sulfonamide Antibiotics in Wastewater by Liquid Chromatography– Tandem Mass Spectrometry

Instrument Type: LCMSMS

Sulfonamides are a common class of synthetic antimicrobials that are widely used in human and in veterinary medicine and as feed additives to promote growth in concentrated animal feeding operations. They are regarded as emerging contaminants that are introduced into the environment predominantly in the USA and Europe. We describe a method for the determination of sulfonamide antibiotics at trace levels in effluent wastewaters.
