AN72481: Trace Anions by Single Pass AutoNeutralization and Ion Chromatography (IC): Anions in 5% NaOH
Instrument Type: ICTrace anions determinations in caustic solutions require high dilution to minimize column overload by the caustic sample. However, the high dilutions required prevent analysis of trace anionic contaminants. Here a single pass approach to neutralize the base sample is demonstrated using both suppressors run in recycle mode. The run time was reduced from 45 min in the previous version of this application, AN 93 using “Park and AutoNeutralize” to 12 min. This application is demonstrated on a 5% (w/w) sodium hydroxide sample. An ICS-6000 can be used for this application.
AU72331: In-line Sample Preparation for the Determination of Anions in Sodium Hydroxide
Instrument Type: ICDetermination of anions in high pH samples is important for a variety of industries. But anions in a high pH sample cannot be determined without proper sample pretreatment due to the high concentration of hydroxide, which can act as an eluent, in the sample. This record shows an easier method to determine mg/L concentration of anions in sodium hydroxide using automated inline sample preparation with Thermo Scientific™ Dionex™ Guardcap™ H vial caps. The caps serve as a cation exchange cartridge to neutralize samples before loading to the Thermo Scientific™ Dionex™ IonPac AS23-4μm column.
AN72268: Determination of Fluoride in Tea using a Combustion Ion Chromatography System
Instrument Type: ICThis application note demonstrates a simple combustion ion chromatography (CIC) method to determine fluoride in tea. Using the CIC system including a Mitsubishi Automatic Combustion Unit AQF-2100H system and a Thermo Scientific Dionex Integrion HPIC system, fluoride in tea is determined in 20 min (11 min if the combustion and chromatography functions are overlapped), a significant time savings over the current Chinese national method which requires more than a hour. The CIC method is sensitive (MDL=1 ppm), precise, and accurate. The only sample preparation required is to grind and dry the tea.
Determination of Chloride and Sulfate in Crude Oil by Combustion Ion Chromatography
Instrument Type: ICIn this application, crude oil was combusted in the Mitsubishi AQF-2100H system and then analyzed using a Dionex Integrion Ion Chromatography system to determine chloride and sulfate with a Dionex IonPac AS28-4µm anion exchange column. In the chromatogram shown, the chloride concentration was ~17 ppm and sulfate was ~3000 ppm.
CAN77204: Determination of Formic and Acetic Acids in Petroleum Products by Ion Chromatography
Instrument Type: ICOrganic acids in crude oil, fuel, etc., are one of the biggest concerns of the oil, oil refining, and car manufacturing industries. Because of their corrosive properties and the associated costs of corrosion, organic acids have become a topic of great industrial interest. Ion chromatography (IC) can be used for the determination of low molecular weight organic acids in aqueous or water-miscible matrices. This application note summarizes the use and evaluation of an automated IC method for the direct determination of acetate and formate in diesel, oil, and diesel/oil mixtures.
