AU138: Determination of Ethanolamines in Industrial Waters by Cation-Exchange Chromatography

Instrument Type: IC

Ion chromatography has been successfully used to determine amines in a variety of chemical, petrochemical, and environmental samples. However, analysis of some samples can be hampered by large concentrations of one or more amines, making the determination of trace concentrations of other amines and cations difficult. The selectivity of the IonPac CS11 column with an methanesulfonic acid eluent addresses many of these challenging analyses. This AU describes the setup and performance of this method. In this record we provide the consumables to update this method with eluent generation.

AN247 (b): Determination of Morpholine, Ethanolamine, and Hydrazine in Simulated Nuclear Power Plant Wastewater

Instrument Type: IC

This Application Note describes the determination of μg/L concentrations of hydrazine, morpholine, and ethanolamine (ETA) in a simulated NPP wastewater sample containing mg/L concentrations of common cations. ETA is separated using an IonPac CS15 column with electrolytically generated methanesulfonic acid eluent. See AN 247 (a) for separation of morpholine and hydrazine on an IonPac CS16 column.

AU137: Determination of Trace Lithium in Industrial Process Waters

Instrument Type: IC

In a variety of situations, carryover from one body of water to another is measured by monitoring a tracer compound. Lithium is a good choice for a tracer because it is very soluble and has a low background concentration in public water supplies. This Application Update describes a rapid and sensitive ion chromatographic method for the determination of trace lithium using a microbore IonPac CS12A column.

AN158: Determination of Trace Sodium and Transition Metals in Power Industry Samples by Ion Chromatography with Nonsuppressed Conductivity Detection

Instrument Type: IC

This application compares suppressed to nonsuppressed conductivity detection for the determination of sub-ppb concentrations of sodium in simulated power plant matrices. Linearity, limits of detection, and recovery of sub-ppb sodium spiked into simulated samples containing high concentrations of ethanolamine are reported. In addition, this application describes the determination of transition metals by nonsuppressed conductivity detection.

AN152: Determination of Sodium at the Parts-Per-Trillion Level in the Presence of High Concentrations of Ethanolamine in Power Plant Waters

Instrument Type: IC

This application describes an IC method for the determination of trace sodium in power plant matrices (e.g., high ethanolamine matrices). The method includes a sample preconcentration column to allow for the quantification of sodium at the ng/L levels. The analytes are separated on a high-capacity Thermo Scientific Dionex IonPac CS16 column using on-line electrically generated MSA and detected using suppressed conductivity.
