AN1149: Profiling Fructosyloligosaccharides (FOS)-containing samples by HPAE-PAD

Instrument Type: IC

In this work, the oligo- and polysaccharide distribution of three different inulin samples has been characterized by HPAE-PAD. In addition, HPAE-PAD profiling was demonstrated as a method to determine FOS content in prebiotic samples and variation in prebiotics on addition of probiotics. We used Inulin-FOS and chicory root inulin as prebiotic samples. For probiotics, we used Yakult drink, a well known probiotic dairy product. In this method, separation of individual oligosaccharides in FOS was achieved on a Dionex CarboPac PA200 column. An ICS-6000 can be used for this application.

AN159: Determination of Sucralose Using HPAE-PAD

Instrument Type: HPLC (Biocompatible)

This application note describes the use of HPAE- PAD to determine sucralose in food and beverage samples. Red Raspberry Diet Rite is a soft drink artificially sweetened with sucralose. It also contains natural and artificial flavors, organic compounds (potassium benzoate and citrate), food dye, and another nonnutritive sweetener (acesulfame potassium). These model food and beverage samples present a great challenge for most chromatographic methods. In this note, the CarboPac™ PA20 anion-exchange column is used to separate sucralose from other ingredients in Red Raspberry Diet Rite and Splenda.

AN150: Determination of Amino Acids in Cell Cultures and Fermentation Broths.

Instrument Type: IC

This application note describes the use of AAA-Direct to analyze common amino acids in the presence of simple sugars, sugar alcohols, alcohols, and glycols in yeast and bacterial fermentation broths. In this application note, the AminoPac PA10 anion-exchange column is used to separate amino acid and carbohydrate ingredients in cell culture and fermentation broth media. High carbohydrate concentrations can hamper the determination of some amino acids due to coelution. Also in this application note, disposable gold (Au) electrodes are evaluated for use in amino acid determination.

AN270: Determination of Hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) in Honey and Biomass

Instrument Type: IC

This work describes a high-performance anion-exchange chromatography with pulsed amperometric detection (HPAE-PAD)-based method for the determination of HMF in samples ranging from food to treated biomass. A Dionex ICS-3000 system with a CarboPac PA1 column, electrolytically generated hydroxide eluent, and electrochemical detection with disposable Au-on-polytetrafluoroethylene working electrodes are used. The Dionex CarboPac PA1 is a high-capacity, rugged column suitable for determining mono- and disaccharides, and has high resolution for HMF in a wide variety of matrices.

AN54: Determination of Total and Free Sulfite in Foods and Beverages

Instrument Type: IC

In the food and beverage industries, sulfing agents have been used as preservatives to prevent microbial spoiling and browning reactions in a wide variety of food and beverage products. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requires labiling of any food or beverage containing a sulfite concentration > 10 ppm. This application describes an imporved ion-exclusion chromatography with pulsed amperometric detection method for the determination of total and free sulfite in foods and beverages.
