Our newly updated flow-through solvent extraction system allows extraction of matrices which require acidic or alkaline pretreatment. The ability to extract these pretreated matrices significantly expands the capabilities of accelerated solvent extraction technology.This Application Note describes methods used for extraction of total fat from food samples and determination of fat content by FAME (Fatty Acid Methyl Ester) analysis based on AOAC Official Method 996.06 section G.

Accurate determination of fat in certain foods is difficult due to the binding or entrapment of the fat by the matrix. Accelerated Solvent Extraction (ASE) is an automated extraction technique that significantly reduces extraction time and solvent consumption and yields equivalent results. In this work, fat was extracted from sour cream, cream cheese, coffee creamer, heavy whipping cream, and low-fat milk.

Accelerated Solvent Extraction (ASE) is a new automated extraction technique that can significantly reduce extraction time and solvent consumption and yields equivalent results, without requiring a pretreatment step. In this application note, fat is extracted from infant formulas by ASE without aggressive pretreatments.

In this work, the performance of the Thermo Scientific TSQ Duo system is assessed for the quantitative analysis of 11 FAMEs in human blood spot extracts. The TSQ Duo system offers analysts a unique choice by allowing the use of single quadrupole methods and enabling the automatic transition to triple quadrupole on the same system. This application note illustrates the stepwise process of upgrading methods from single quadrupole to triple quadrupole using Chromeleon CDS software.
