Essential Lipidomics Experiments Using the LTQ Orbitrap Hybrid Mass SpectrometerInstrument Type: LCMSMS
We tested the performance of a novel mass spectrometer, the Thermo Scientific LTQ Orbitrap, in a multitude of different applications in the field of lipidomics. The experiments presented here take advantage of the LTQ Orbitrap capabilities of multiple stage fragmentation, high resolution and mass accuracy to solve challenges of quantitating isomeric glycerophospholipids, resolving isobaric species, and elucidating fragmentation pathways and compositional assignment of various lipid species.
Quantitative and Semi-Quantitative Determination of PPCPs and Their By-Products in Wastewater by Orbitrap MSInstrument Type: LCMS
Pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs) and endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) detected in surface and drinking waters, as well as in treated wastewater. They are an issue of increasing international attention due to potential environmental impacts. We developed an analytical method capable of determining PPCPs and their by-products in wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) samples. This workflow was applied in a survey of 35 permeate samples obtained from a pilot anaerobic membrane bioreactor (AnMBR).
Use of UHPLC and High-Resolution MS for Quantitative Analysis of Pesticides in Onion MatrixInstrument Type: LCMS
Monitoring for pesticide and other chemical residues in produce is essential to maintaining a safe food supply. Monitoring is typically done by public agencies, but budget restrictions have increased pressure on these agencies to improve productivity while lowering costs. We demonstrate the ability of a high-resolution, accurate-mass UHPLC-MS system, combined with appropriate application-specific workflow software, to provide fast, confident, and precise screening and quantitative analysis of pesticides in onion matrix.
Qualitative and Quantitative Analysis of Pesticides in Horse Feed Matrix Using Orbitrap MSInstrument Type: LCMSMS
In this work, the Exactive Plus instrument was used to analyze extracts of horse feed spiked with common pesticides. We demonstrate the ability of a high-resolution, accurate-mass benchtop mass spectrometer to achieve high sensitivity and selectivity when analyzing modern, very-short-gradient UPHLC separations of complex samples.

We describe a method for the analysis of pesticides, showing the utility of a full-scan data-dependent MS/MS workflow to achieve regulatory levels while providing a complete targeted and screening analysis using a high-resolution, accurate mass (HRAM) spectral library for identification and confirmation.
