AN71: Determination of Polyphosphates Using Ion Chromatography with Suppressed Conductivity Detection

Instrument Type: IC

A rapid method for the separation of polyphosphates with chain lengths to about 35 phosphate units is presented in this Application Note. In this method, polyphosphates are eluted from a 2-mm IonPac AS11 anion-exchange column with a sodium hydroxide gradient. The ASRS (Anion Self-Regenerating Suppressor) is used to suppress the high hydroxide concentrations needed to elute large, multiply-charged polyphosphates. Steep hydroxide gradients can be used without a substantial increase in background conductivity because of the exceptional suppression capacity of the ASRS.

AN190: Determination of Sulfate Counter Ion and Anionic Impurities in Aminoglycoside Drug Substances by Ion Chromatography (Impurities Method)

Instrument Type: IC

Many drug substances are in salt forms to promote solubility, stability, and bioavailability. It is important to accurately determine the concentration of the counter ions to establish the correct molecular mass, the stoichiometric relationship and the completeness of salt formation. This application note describes the linearity, detection limits, precisions, and recoveries using anion-exchange chromatography with an electrolytically-generated eluent. Here is the impurities method using IonPac AS11-HC column for the determination of sulfate counter ions and impurities in aminoglycosides.

AN123: Determination of Inorganic Anions and Organic Acids in Fermentation Broths

Instrument Type: IC

Fermentation broths are complex mixtures of nutrients, waste products, cells and cell debris, and desired products. Fermentation monitoring is important for many industries because carbon sources and metabolic by-products can impact the yield of the desired products. This application note describes the use of two different anion-exchange columns, IonPac AS11 and IonPac AS11-HC, with suppressed conductivity detection, to analyze common organic and inorganic anions in yeast and bacterial fermentation broths.

AN1088: Determination of Thiosulfate and Pyrophosphate in Crayfish Wash Powder

Instrument Type: ICMS

To make crayfish look more attractive to consumers, they are often cleaned with wash powder, and it is this wash powder that is suspected of causing the problems associated with excessive ingestion of crayfish. The reported harmful ingredients of crayfish wash powder are thiosulfate and phosphaterelated compounds. IC/MS was applied to the analysis of components in crayfish wash powder and an effective method was developed using the Thermo Scientific Dionex ICS-4000 Integrated Capillary HPIC System and the Thermo Scientific TSQ Vantage Triple Stage Quadrupole mass spectrometer.

AN104: Analysis of Personal Care Products by Ion Chromatography

Instrument Type: IC

Ion chromatography (IC) with conductivity detection complements traditional HPLC-UV pharmaceutical separations. IC is especially useful when the analytes do not contain chromophores, or when it is desirable to determine chromophoric and nonchromophoric molecules in a single run. This application note addresses the use of IC for the analysis of personal care products, including compounds found in some toothpastes, hair permanent solutions, and acne medications. Several examples illustrate the variety of separations that can be achieved using IC.
