AU72331: In-line Sample Preparation for the Determination of Anions in Sodium Hydroxide

Instrument Type: IC

Determination of anions in high pH samples is important for a variety of industries. But anions in a high pH sample cannot be determined without proper sample pretreatment due to the high concentration of hydroxide, which can act as an eluent, in the sample. This record shows an easier method to determine mg/L concentration of anions in sodium hydroxide using automated inline sample preparation with Thermo Scientific™ Dionex™ Guardcap™ H vial caps. The caps serve as a cation exchange cartridge to neutralize samples before loading to the Thermo Scientific™ Dionex™ IonPac AS23-4μm column.

AN1163: Determination of Anions on the Surface of Printed Circuit Boards by IPC-TM-650 Method 2.3.28 using HPIC

Instrument Type: IC

Ion chromatography (IC) has become an important technique for the evaluation of ionic cleanliness. This application note describes an IC method using a Thermo Scientific™ Dionex™ IonPac™ AS11-HC-4μm column and a Thermo Scientific™ Dionex™ ICS-5000+ HPIC system to determine extractable anionic contaminants on the surface of PCBs, including inorganic anions and weak organic acids (WOAs) following the extraction procedure described in IPC-TM-650 Method 2.3.28. An ICS-6000 can be used for this application. The addendum shows alternative methods with their benefits and limitations.

AU203: Determination of Trace Concentrations of Oxyhalides and Bromide in Municipal and Bottled Waters Using a Compact Ion Chromatography System

Instrument Type: IC

To demonstrate that oxyhalides and bromide can be run successfully using a Thermo Scientific™ Dionex™ Integrion™ HPIC™ system combined with a Thermo Scientific™ Dionex™ IonPac™ AS19-4μm column, featuring smaller resin particles, to achieve faster analysis without compromising data quality compared to using the Dionex IonPac AS19 column as in Application Note 167.

Determination of Trace Concentrations of Oxyhalides and Bromide in Municipal and Bottled Waters Using a Compact Ion Chromatography System

Instrument Type: IC

This record demonstrates that the method in AN167 can be run successfully using an Integrion Ion Chromatography (IC) system. AN 167 shows that IC with a hydroxide-selective Dionex IonPac AS19 column and electrolytic eluent generation is an efficient and sensitive approach for determining trace concentrations of disinfection biproduct (DBP) anions and bromide in municipal and bottled water samples. With this method the analyst can run US EPA Method 300.1 Part B.

AU122: The Determination of Iodide in Brine

Instrument Type: IC

In this Application Update, ion chromatography coupled with pulsed amperometric detection is used to determine iodide in brine (approximately 30% sodium chloride). This method is specific, sensitive, and rapid. Sample preparation is a simple sample dilution. Iodide is separated on the Dionex IonPac AS11 column, which contains a hydrophilic resin that is well suited to the chromatography of iodide, a relatively hydrophobic anion. Using a nitric acid eluent, the iodide ion elutes from the column in under five minutes.
