LC-MS quantitative screening method for 18 anabolic steroids in oral fluid using MS2 spectra data collected with Q Exactive Orbitrap mass spectrometer

Instrument Type: LCMSMS

Androgenic-anabolic steroids (AAS) are drugs which mimic effects of testosterone and dihydrotestosterone in the human body. They increase protein synthesis within cells which results in buildup of cellular tissue, especially in muscles. Use of anabolic steroids by athletes to increase body weight is referred to as doping and is banned by major sporting bodies. In this work we implemented Thermo Scientific Q Exactive ultra high resolution mass spectrometer to ensure high method specificity and sensitivity.

Quantitation of Seven Designer Cathinones in Urine Using Q Exactive Mass Spectrometer

Instrument Type: LCMSMS

Substituted cathinones, or “Bath Salts,” have become the latest abused designer drugs. Based on cathinone, a substance found in the African Catha edulis (khat) plant, substituted cathinones are stimulants with amphetamine- and cocaine-like effects. We describe an HPLC-MS method for the forensic toxicological analysis of the three Schedule I cathinones: MDPV, methylone and mephedrone, as well as other substituted cathinones: methedrone, ethylone, butylone and naphyrone in urine with limits of quantitation (LOQs) of 0.5 ng/mL. For forensic use only.

Determination of the Molecular Transformations and Pathways that Occur During the Winemaking Process

Instrument Type: LCMSMS

Direct wine analysis was used to determine the molecular weight of the components and their variable content across the 5 samples in this study was observed. This work demonstrates the utility of analyzing complex mixtures without prior sample preparation by making use of the separation of HPLC combined with the High Resolution Accurate Mass (HRAM) of the Q Exactive quadrupole Orbitrap mass analyzer. The combination of these techniques provides a robust and confident means of profiling complex mixtures as well as successful identification of detected components.

Simultaneous, Fast Analysis of Melamine and Analogues in Pharmaceutical Components Using Q Exactive - Benchtop Orbitrap LC-MS/MS

Instrument Type: LCMSMS

We demonstrated a simple workflow for the simultaneous analysis of melamine and analogues in pharmaceutical components using a Q Exactive benchtop Orbitrap mass spectrometer. The sensitive, simple and robust method employed the Thermo Fisher Scientific Q Exactive high resolution Orbitrap mass spectrometry coupled with UHPLC and HILIC mode chromatographic separation. Simultaneous detection and quantification of melamine and its analogues in Albumin and Guar gum were achieved with a high degree of confidence.
