AN319: Extraction of Organophosphorus Pesticides Using Accelerated Solvent Extraction (ASE)

Instrument Type: Automated Sample Prep

The use of ASE in the extraction of OPP compounds from solid wastes is a more convenient, faster, and less solvent-intensive method than previously available. OPP recoveries by ASE are equivalent to recoveries from Soxhlet and other methods. ASE also avoids the problem of multiple washing procedures associated with sonication. This method is applicable to the extraction of water-insoluble or slightly water-soluble organophosphorus pesticides in preparation for gas chromatographic measurements. This method is applicable to soils, solid wastes, and sediments containing 250–2500 μg/kg of OPPs.

AN323: Extraction of Polychlorinated Dibenzo-p-dioxins and Polychlorinated Dibenzofurans from Environmental Samples Using Accelerated Solvent Extraction (ASE)

Instrument Type: Automated Sample Prep

Polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs) and polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDFs) are toxic at low concentrations and therefore highly regulated. Additionally, these contaminants are difficult to extract. Accelerated Solvent Extraction (ASE) is an equivalent extraction method for U.S. EPA Methods 3545. ASE uses solvents at elevated temperatures and pressures, thereby increasing the extraction efficiency while consuming small amounts of solvent at significantly less time. Here ASE has been used to extract PCDDs and PCDFs from ground chimney brick, urban dust, fly ash, and sediment samples.

Separation of 36 organophosphorus pesticides by GC-MS

Instrument Type: GCMS

The Thermo Scientific Trace 1310 ISQ system is applied for the direct injection of extracted organophosphorus pesticide samples. Separation is performed on a Thermo Scientific TraceGOLD TG-5SilMS column with MS SIM detection.

Demonstration of EPA Method 8141B for the high resolution separation of organophosphorus pesticides by GC-FID

Instrument Type: GC

The TraceGOLD TG-5MS column and the deactivated, splitless quartz liner with quartz wool, when used in a TRACE 1310 GC instrument, demonstrated excellent performance for the separation and analysis of organophosphorus compounds with excellent peak shape, resolution, and reproducibility.
