AN1121: Ion Chromatography Assay for Lithium in Lithium Citrate

Instrument Type: IC

This application note describes an ion chromatography (IC) based method that uses a Thermo Scientific™ Dionex™ IonPac™ CS12A-5µm cation-exchange column, an electrolytically generated MSA eluent, and suppressed conductivity detection to determine lithium in lithium citrate. The method proposed in this application note was validated following the guidelines outlined in USP General Chapter <1225>, Validation of Compendial Procedures.

AN222: Determination of Parts-Per-Trillion Concentrations of Strontium by Pre-Concentration with Ion Chromatography and Suppressed Conductivity Detection

Instrument Type: IC

Radioactive isotopes of strontium (90Sr and 89Sr isotopes) are byproducts of nuclear power plant reactions. 90Sr monitoring is needed because 90Sr can displace calcium in bones and teeth, resulting in long term exposure and subsequent increased cancer risk. Ion-exchange chromatography can be used to focus and isolate 90Sr from other isotopes that interfere with accurate scintillation determinations. Here ng/L of non-radioactive Sr as a retention time marker for 90Sr is pre-concentrated, then separated on an IonPac CS12A column, and detected by suppressed conductivity.

TN130: Fast Determinations of Inorganic Cations in Salton Sea Samples Using a High-Pressure IC System

Instrument Type: IC

Monitoring salinity levels in estuarine ecosystems is critical to preventing salinity-specific diseases, especially in a saline lake, such as the Salton Sea with higher salt content than the ocean. This inland sea is being monitored for reclamation efforts. This application demonstrates fast cation analysis of high saline samples, such as the Salton Sea, using a high pressure IC system and 3 mm fast separation columns. An ICS-6000 can be used for this application.
