AN1088: Determination of Thiosulfate and Pyrophosphate in Crayfish Wash Powder

Instrument Type: ICMS

To make crayfish look more attractive to consumers, they are often cleaned with wash powder, and it is this wash powder that is suspected of causing the problems associated with excessive ingestion of crayfish. The reported harmful ingredients of crayfish wash powder are thiosulfate and phosphaterelated compounds. IC/MS was applied to the analysis of components in crayfish wash powder and an effective method was developed using the Thermo Scientific Dionex ICS-4000 Integrated Capillary HPIC System and the Thermo Scientific TSQ Vantage Triple Stage Quadrupole mass spectrometer.

TN119: Fast Separations of Organic Acids in an Orange Juice Sample Using High-Pressure Capillary IC

Instrument Type: IC

Determinations of organic acid profiles in fruit juices are used in the beverage industry to characterize flavor, identify spoilage and potential sources of adulteration, and to meet labeling requirements for food products. In this study, inorganic anions and organic acids from a diluted orange juice sample are separated by anion-exchange chromatography on a capillary size IonSwift MAX-100 monolith IC column and detected by suppressed conductivity detection. For more information on organic acid determinations in fruit juices, please review AN143. An ICS-6000 can be used for this application.

TN137: Determination of Carbohydrates in Urine by Capillary HPAE-PAD

Instrument Type: IC

Certain carbohydrates such as mannitol, rhamnose, xylose, 3-O-methylglucose, and lactulose can be determined in urine and serum samples to evaluate disease states in animals and humans. These carbohydrates can be determined directly by HPAE-PAD, a well-established technique that eliminates the need for derivitization, in turn saving time and money. In this work, the separation and detection of the same carbohydrates of interest discussed in AN 1006 are demonstrated using a capillary Dionex CarboPac PA20 anion-exchange column on the ICS-4000 Dedicated Capillary HPIC system.

Semiconductor carbonated water

Instrument Type: IC

High pressure 18 MΩ-cm deionized water is used to clean tools and provide coolant during dicing operations of semiconductor devices. To minimize static charge buildup which may damage devices, some manufacturers "reionize" or aerate the deionized water with high purity carbon dioxide gas to increase the ionic content, thus reduce the resistivity and minimize static discharge damage. Here ppb anion concentrations are determined in carbonated deionized water using large loop injection (40 µL) onto IonPac AS15 column with a hydroxide gradient and suppressed conductivity detection.
