AN325: Extraction of Oils from Oilseeds by Accelerated Solvent Extraction (ASE)

Instrument Type: Automated Sample Prep

Accelerated solvent extraction is an extraction method that significantly streamlines sample preparation. The production of oil from oilseeds is an important business, and agronomists are continuing to investigate ways to improve the oil output of the seeds as well as ways to control the composition of the oil itself. The procedures described in this application note apply to the determination of oil content in oilseeds. The oil content is determined by collecting the extracts in preweighed vials, evaporating the solvent with a nitrogen stream and reweighing the vials.

Separation of fatty acid methyl esters using a high-polarity, phase-optimised GC column and a GC/FID detection technique

Instrument Type: GC

The Thermo Scientific TRACE GC Ultra is applied for the analysis of fatty acid methyl esters (FAMEs). The separation was performed on a Thermo Scientific TRACE TR-FAME GC column, with flame ionisation detection.

Enhanced resolution of polyunsaturated lipids in a nutritional supplement by HPLC-CAD

Instrument Type: HPLC-CAD

The Thermo Scientific UltiMate 3000 HPLC system is applied for the analysis of polyunsaturated lipids in a nutritional supplement. The separation is performed on a Thermo Scientific Accucore C30 HPLC column, with charged aerosol detection (CAD).

Free Fatty Acids by HPLC-CAD

Instrument Type: HPLC

Free fatty acids by gradient HPLC and Corona Veo charged aerosol detection

Improved determination of omega fatty acids in chicken fat using a Thermo Scientific Acclaim C30 column with charged aerosol detection

Instrument Type: HPLC-CAD

The Thermo Scientific Dionex UltiMate 3000 RS system is applied for the analysis of omega fatty acids in chicken fat. The separation of 14 fatty acids was performed in less than 24 minutes on a Thermo Scientific Acclaim C30 5 µm column with a Thermo Scientific Dionex Corona Ultra charged aerosal detector (CAD).
