AN349: Rapid Determination of Organochlorine Pesticides in Animal Feed Using Accelerated Solvent Extraction (ASE)

Instrument Type: Automated Sample Prep

ASE is EPA approved under method 3545A. This technique uses high temperatures and pressures to increase the kinetics of the extraction process, thus decreasing the extraction time and solvent consumption. Also, because ASE is automated, it allows unattended extraction of up to 24 samples. In this application note, OCPs are extracted from certified reference material (CRM) BCR 115 (Institute for Reference Materials and Measurement, Geel, Belgium), an animal feed containing certified levels of organochlorine pesticides.

AN1025: Simultaneous Extraction of PAHs and PCBs from Environmental Samples Using Accelerated Solvent Extraction

Instrument Type: Automated Sample Prep

Accelerated solvent extraction is an established technique to efficiently extract contaminants in solid and semisolid sample matrices with less solvent and time. Polyaromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) and Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs) are considered toxic and carcinogenic, and therefore classified as persistent organic pollutants (POPs). Typically, PAHs and PCBs are extracted separately, using different solvent combinations. Our study demonstrates extraction of PAHs and PCBs using a single method from spiked mussel and from a soil spiked with a standard reference materials (SRMs).

AU313: Accelerated Solvent Extraction — GC-MS Analysis and Detection of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons in Soil

Instrument Type: GCMS

Accelerated solvent extraction provides a more convenient, faster, and less solvent intensive method than previously available for the extraction of PAHs from solid wastes. This Application Note updates the work that was done in Thermo Scientific Application Note 313 (AN 313) for the extraction of PAHs from environmental samples. A Thermo Scientific™ Dionex™ ASE™ 350 Accelerated Solvent Extractor system was used for the extraction and Thermo Scientific™ ISQ™ Single Quadrupole GC-MS system to analyze 16 PAHs from soil.
