An HPAE-PAD method was developed to determine three sugar substitutes (erythritol, allulose, and sucralose) in sugar-free foods and beverages. These sugar substitutes are often used in combination in food and beverages to create the same level of sweetness as natural sugars as well as minimize less desired flavors of these sugar substitutes. The separation of the sugars was achieved on Dionex™ CarboPac™ PA20 column. We analyzed five commercial sugar-free products for their erythritol, allulose, and sucralose contents. In addition we demonstrate this application using a PdH reference electrode.
Contaminants of emerging concern (CEC) in the environment are generally described as compounds that are unknown or unrecognized, undetected or not routinely monitored, and represent a diverse group of chemicals that may pose a risk to human health and the environment. Due to limited analytical capability and available resources , monitoring of CECs has been focused on selected analytes rather than a holistic approach. We describe a new analytical method that can be used in the quantitative analysis of 61 targeted and 312 non-targeted CECs.
Acesulfame potassium, saccharin, aspartame, and sucralose are all commonly used artificial sweeteners that have been approved for use by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Sodium cyclamate has been banned in the United States, although it is approved for use in many other countries, including the UK. We demonstrate the use of the Thermo Scientific Accucore RP-MS HPLC column for the rapid analysis of five artificial sweeteners.
We develop an HRAM-based LC-MS/MS workflow to quantitatively analyze contaminants of emerging concern (CECs) in biosolids samples and to screen for 381 non-targeted CECs. Unlike LC-QQQ-MS/MS, the Fisher Scientific Exactive Plus Orbitrap full-scan high-resolution, accurate-mass (HRAM) mass spectrometry provides not only quantitative data for targeted compounds but also information on the non-targeted compounds, such as environmental transformation by-products, for possible environmental loadings and ecological effects that would not be available in a targeted assay.
