Determination of High Sugar Concentrations in an Irish Whiskey Sample Using a Compact Ion Chromatography System

Instrument Type: IC

This record demonstrates the determinations of glucose, fructose, and sucrose in a 5-fold diluted Irish whiskey sample by HPAE-PAD. Typically samples with g/L concentrations require >1000-fold dilutions to remain in the linear range of the very sensitive HPAE-PAD technique. However, this method, demonstrated on the Integrion RFIC system, uses a 0.4 µL internal injection loop with the High Concentration Carbohydrate Analysis Kit to extend the linearity from low mg/L to g/L concentrations. A wood hydrolysate application using this technique is attached for reference.

Determination of High Sugar Concentrations in a Sparkling Wine Using a Compact Ion Chromatography System

Instrument Type: IC

This record demonstrates the determinations of glucose, fructose, and sucrose in a 100-fold diluted sparkling wine sample by HPAE-PAD. Typically samples with g/L concentrations require > 10,000-fold dilutions to remain in the linear range of the very sensitive HPAE-PAD technique. However, this method demonstrated on the Integrion RFIC system, uses a 0.4 µL internal injection loop with the High Concentration Carbohydrate Analysis Kit to extend the linearity from low mg/L to g/L concentrations. A wood hydrolysate application using this technique is attached for reference.

Determination of Sugars in Soft Drinks Using a Compact IC System

Instrument Type: IC

Excess sugar consumption is tied to poor health outcomes. Nutritional information including sugar amount is required in the Nutrition Facts label for all pre-packaged foods and drinks by The Nutrition Labeling and Education Act. A high-performance anion exchange method with pulsed amperometric detection (HPAE-PAD) has been developed to accurately determine the sugar concentrations. This record shows the determination of sugars in soft drinks using the Thermo Scientific Dionex Integrion system. This system allow fast determination of sugars with no eluent preparation or sample derivatization.

Simple isocratic analysis of sugars in honey

Instrument Type: HPLC

The Thermo Scientific UltiMate 3000 HPLC system is applied for the analysis of sugars in honey. The separation is performed on a Thermo Scientific Accucore 150-Amide-HILIC HPLC column, with RI detection.

High resolution separation by GC of derivatized acylated sugars using a Thermo Scientific TRACE TR-1701 GC column.

Instrument Type: GC

The Thermo Scientific TRACE GC Ultra is applied to the separation of derivatized acylated sugars using the Thermo Scientific TRACE TR-1701 column with FID detection
