Analysis of BTEX and Chlorinated Compounds in Water via a Dual Detector Configuration Gas Chromatograph

Instrument Type: GC

The application describes the determination of water pollutants as volatile aromatics and chlorinated hydrocarbons through a dual detector configuration of the Trace1310 GC, using the FID for the quantitation of the aromatic hydrocarbons and a more selective ECD for the quantitation of the halogenated compounds. A double detector configuration allows the simultaneous analysis of both classes of compounds, thanks to a post-column splitting of the effluents to the two detectors. A dedicated Dual Detector Kit has been used to guarantee inertness of the sample path and no dead volumes.

Rapid and Reliable Detection of Dissolved Gases in Water

Instrument Type: GC

This application describes a GC method for the identification and quantification of light hydrocarbons as Methane, Ethane, Ethylene and Propane dissolved in water samples after reservoirs contamination. The monitoring of gas content in water is used to assess the environmental impact of fracking procedures. The analytical method involves the sampling of dissolved gases via static headspace extraction and an external calibration with clean water samples saturated with a gas standard mixture.

Automated Determination of Gasoline Range Organics (GRO) in Water Via Valve-and-Loop Headspace GC

Instrument Type: GC

A Thermo Scientific TRACE 1310 GC-FID coupled to the Thermo Scientific Triplus 300 Headspace Autosampler have been used for the determination of gasoline range organics in water samples. The Gasoline Range Organics (GRO) are markers of possible water contamination due to oil spills and correspond to the range of alkanes from C6 to C10, covering a boiling point range of approximately 60-170°C. According to EPA 5021A, GRO are volatile enough to be effectively removed from environmental samples using an equilibrium headspace procedure.

Static Headspace Analysis of Residual Solvents in Flexible Packaging and Quantitation with Multiple Headspace Extraction Following EN 13628-1:2002

Instrument Type: GC

Goal of this application is to demonstrate the applicability of a modern, high-throughput valve-and-loop static headspace autosampler to obtain full compliance with the European Standard EN 13628-1, which specifies guidelines for the quantitative determination of residual solvents in flexible packaging by Multiple Headspace Extraction methodology. The Thermo Scientific Trace1310 GC coupled with the Triplus300 HS have been used for this purpose.

Rapid, Automated, and Accurate Determination of Volatiles in Human Blood by Headspace Gas Chromatography

Instrument Type: GC

The purpose of this application is to describe the determination of blood alcohol levels by using the Trace 1310 GC in dual-column configuration, coupled with the new Triplus 300 Headspace Autosampler. Blood alchol content analysis is one of the most common test in forensic science and it is generally performed via headspace gas chromatography with flame ionization detection (FID). The use of Chromeleon CDS software is employed to easily perform the analysis in the dual-column / dual-FID configuration in a fully automated manner.
