The Thermo Scientific TRACE GC Ultra is applied for the comparison of WCOT and PLOT columns for the GC/MS analysis of benzene in soft drinks. The equivalent Thermo Scientific columns specified in the FDA method were compared for their suitability in the quantification of benzene at low concentrations. The columns compared were the Thermo Scientific TRACE TR-V1, TracePLOT TG-Bond Q 15 m and TracePLOT TG-Bond Q 30m GC columns and full method details for these are in the application note PDF.

Goal of this application is to demonstrate the applicability of a modern, high-throughput valve-and-loop static headspace autosampler to obtain full compliance with the European Standard EN 13628-1, which specifies guidelines for the quantitative determination of residual solvents in flexible packaging by Multiple Headspace Extraction methodology. The Thermo Scientific Trace1310 GC coupled with the Triplus300 HS have been used for this purpose.
