Fast analysis of blue dyes in breakfast cereal using a Thermo Scientific Acclaim 120 C18 HPLC column

The Thermo Scientific UltiMate 3000 HPLC system is applied for the analysis of FD&C blue #1 and #2 dyes in blueberry-flavored breakfast cereal. The separation is performed on a Thermo Scientific Acclaim 120 C18 column. The cereal sample was ground, extracted and filtered prior to analysis.

This work demonstrates the use of QuEChERS as a fast and simple sample preparation approach for the extraction of benzophenones from breakfast cereal. The separation of benzophenone and 4-hydroxybenzophenone was performed on a Thermo Scientific TraceGOLD TG-17MS column with MS detection.
