AN72609: Using IC with Electrospray Ionization Mass Spectrometry for the Determination of Cations and Amines in Alkanolamine Scrubbing Solutions: Synthetic Sample

Instrument Type: ICMS

Alkanolamines, such as methyldiethanolamine (MDEA), diethanolamine (DEA), and ethanolamine (EA), are used to neutralize the sour gas impurities. The amine solutions are monitored for concentrations of alkanolamine and inorganic cations to maintain neutralizing capacity and to minimize salt-induced corrosion, respectively. In this application note, µg/L to mg/L concentrations of sodium, ammonium, and calcium in high concentrations (mg/L to percent) of alkanolamines are determined by IC-MS on the Integrion IC and ISQ EC mass spectrometer. See also TN72611 for configuration.
